Discovering the Magic Within: Embracing Self-Love and Personal Happiness
It is often said that approximately 95% of the world’s current population is driven to continue living simply because they have no alternative but to survive and endure throughout their lifetimes.
This reality can be quite disheartening, don’t you think? It’s entirely possible that we find ourselves among that 95%.
We spend a significant portion of our lives striving to bring happiness to those around us, meeting every conceivable need for our parents, children, partners, society, family, friends, and the list goes on.
We invest our time and energy diligently to earn a living.
However, when it’s our turn to experience happiness, we sometimes find ourselves reliant on oxygen cylinders just to breathe.
This begs the question: why is our individual happiness often overshadowed by the happiness of others?
Why are we frequently told that we can only be happy if we adhere to certain standards of living, get married, become parents, or prioritize the happiness and needs of others above our own?
This is indeed a somber reflection on the complexities of human existence.
It’s no wonder that more than half of the world’s population seems to be merely surviving, waiting for the end to arrive.
Why do we, as humans, make everything so unnecessarily intricate, so challenging that we lose the will to live?
I recall a time when I used to wander aimlessly, hopping on buses without a destination in mind.
During one of these journeys, I encountered someone truly remarkable — a person burdened with a myriad of illnesses, experiencing pain in nearly every part of their body.
They had lost their spouse and lived a solitary life, facing struggles every day. Despite it all, they always greeted the world with a warm smile.
In the course of our conversation, they shared something that left an indelible mark on my consciousness.
They said, “Sneha, you’re still in the early stages of life, and you haven’t seen all that the world has to offer. It can be a harsh place. But always remember, no matter how challenging life becomes, no matter how lost or devoid of purpose you may feel, never stop believing in magic. As long as you hold onto that belief, you will find your way through any situation.”
At the time, I found this sentiment both strange and intriguing. Yet, looking back today, I realize how much sense it makes.
We are the magic, not some external force or entity. To believe in magic, we must first believe in ourselves. We are our own knights in shining armor; no one else can fill that role.
Our sadness and disappointment often stem from the fruitless search for happiness in others and material possessions.
This, in fact, lies at the root of our discontent. Moving forward, let us cease searching for happiness in external sources, as it places an undue burden on them.
Instead, let’s turn inward and define what truly brings us joy.
Certainly, let’s fulfill our apparent responsibilities, but also allow ourselves to be a bit selfish and prioritize self-love.
After all, we are the sole architects of our own happiness and problem solvers.
Above all, let’s continue to believe in the magic within ourselves. ❤️
